Dan DeKoter Graduated With A Bachelor’s Degree In Philosophy And English In 1977

Dan DeKoter is a Martindale-Hubbell “AV” rated lawyer, the highest rating which an attorney can obtain professionally from the premier attorney rating service in the nation. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and English, from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1977. While at Calvin, he was a member of the dormitory council and wrote for the student newspaper, the Calvin Chimes. Prior to attending Calvin, he attended the Maurice-Orange City High School, where he was a National Merit Finalist and was conferred the William Randolph Hearst Foundation Senate Youth Program scholarship. In 1977, he joined the University of Iowa Law School and in 1980 graduated in the top 20% of his law school class. In June 1980, he passed the Iowa bar examination and also received his Juris Doctorate degree. Thereafter, Dan DeKoter joined the Corcoran, Skiver and Zito law firm. Then and now, the firm aims to help people by meeting their legal needs fairly and justly.   At DeKoter, Thole & Dawson, P.L.C., Dan along with his partners, Michael E. Thole and Harold D. Dawson, provide a wide range of legal services including civil litigation (personal injury, insurance defense, and business disputes), business and employment law, and estate planning and administration. Dan is also serving on the Village Northwest Unlimited Board and East Oaks Estates Property Owners Association. He is a past member of the Sibley Library Board, Sibley Kiwanis, Iowa State Bar Association Legal Forms Committee (chair), Northwest Iowa Humane Society (president), and several church boards. Besides being an experienced legal professional, Dan DeKoter is also committed towards working for the welfare of the society. He annually contributes about $3,000 to promote reading. He, along with his partners, provides free legal services to charitable institutions through his law firm. He donates significantly to ATLAS of Osceola County (assistance for the needy in Osceola County) and Village Northwest Unlimited (which provides residential services to the mentally challenged), on an annual basis.  Dan is fond of reading books on history, political analysis and mystery.
